Air Liquide acquires Cryogenic Turboexpander Business Line of Nikkiso Cryogenic Industries

Air Liquide Engineering & Construction has acquired the Cryogenic Turboexpander Business Line of Nikkiso Cryogenic Industries, a subsidiary of Nikkiso Co., Ltd (Japan).

Located mainly in California, with approximately 50 employees, the Cryogenic Turboexpander business line of Nikkiso Cryogenic Industries specialises in the design and manufacturing of high efficiency turboexpanders. Turboexpanders are widely used in industrial gas processes for the separation and liquefaction of gases at low temperatures, such as air gases, hydrogen or natural gas. 

The addition of the Cryogenic Turboexpander business line allows Air Liquide to strengthen its expertise in cryogenic processes as well as enhance the maintenance and services of turboexpanders for the Group’s facilities.

This acquisition meets the Air Liquide strategic objective of enhancing its independence for  this technology brick which will support the long-term development and competitiveness of its core air gases, hydrogen production and liquefaction units.

The acquisition was effective January 1st, 2021.
